“You have to hurry,
everything disappears”

Bernd + Hilla Becher
Approach
Helmut Giersiefen's artistic journey stems from a deep well of curiosity, driving his unraveling of the aesthetics hidden within and delving into narratives beneath the surface. His work is a testament to the exploration of both the seen and the unseen, revealing stories waiting to be discovered.
Process
Giersiefen’s process begins with identifying and investigating locations rich with intriguing stories to uncover. His photography begins to lay a latticework intended to ignite viewers' curiosities to explore further. From the images, a series is organized, utilizing both, analogue and digital photography and exploiting the full spectrum of parameters—including film materials and development techniques—to create unique auras that embody the photographic themes and typologies.

Series

Through Giersiefen’s narrative series, the photographer-as-storyteller is unmasked. Each series he offers us  is a detailed exploration, an unfolding, thematic journey. It is not the individual image that is decisive – it is the series, the juxtaposition of sequences in order that allows one to experience time and the time constant through all the images. The proximity of images becomes a deliberate act, guiding us through a carefully crafted story that lingers in the mind long after the final image is experienced.
